What’s Wrong with GMOs?

by AmirHealthGuru on January 28, 2009

By now most people know that GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. But how do GMOs affect us, the food we eat, and the environment? Jeffrey Smith, founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology provides a solid general overview in this interview.

Spenceroth, yeah …
Spenceroth, yeah but he doesn’t provide any evidence that they are having side effects. All I am saying.

Spenceroth February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

he doesn’t say they …
he doesn’t say they don’t work in their intended purpose, king corn. its that their purpose has horrid side effects upon its consumer

Scientific study …
Scientific study suggests link to GM crops:
“Preliminary findings suggest a link between Morgellons Disease and Agrobacterium, a soil bacterium extensively manipulated and used in making GM crops; has genetic engineering created a new epidemic?”
Google it : “Agrobacterium & Morgellons Disease, A GM Connection?
by Dr. Mae-Wan Ho and Prof. Joe mins ”

Of course, I meant …
Of course, I meant “they’re.” Yes, I know science is not at fault. There are responsible scientists. It is first the government’s fault, and second the fault of scientists who think they can control and dominate nature, and who support crooked government.

ndyt February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

i miss the …
i miss the animation :( Also, I think this guy is full of crap. For example, where is the info to back up this story about Russian lab rats and mice having increased mortality rates? Has anyone seen King Korn? Looks like GMOs are working pretty well but this guy says they dont work at all.

jophus82 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

This isn’t a …
This isn’t a conspiracy, nor is this science’s fault. This is poor government.

Nothing put in the body should reach the market without full independent government studies. If it does, it is the governments fault.

If you shut down pharmaceuticals, you’ll severely limit development of new drugs. A cure for cancer that could be 4 years away will now be at least 15 years away.

jophus82 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Who are “their” (I …
Who are “their” (I think you meant they’re).

Science isn’t at fault for you eating this. The government is.

France refused to …
France refused to apply a 2002 law which set out how biotech crops could be planted in areas where other conventional crops were being grown.

The European Court of Justice said France’s conduct was unlawful

Paris has said internal opposition by environmentalists is too strong for it to press ahead with the new measures.

On Tuesday, the Luxembourg-based court said its ruling would act as a warning to others that ignoring EU rules had a price

15:40 – 15:59

My …
15:40 – 15:59

My brother can only wear cotton because of his allergies. What will he wear?

Great… the bread I eat has soybean oil in it (most likely genetically modified)… I might be a mutant by now with pesticide-producing intestines… Jerks, did I ever say I wanted to eat genetically modified food? Especially without even being told!! I swear, I think their trying to kill us off. GMOs, plastic that leaches deadly chemicals, irradiated food, processed foods, etc… (yes, there’s more).

A lot of things are …
A lot of things are conspiracies because most people are greedy for money.

umm… kitty, you …
umm… kitty, you should also realize that companies are patenting who genuses. They patent the genome of a microbe, with 10% genetic variation. Consider that humans and chimps differ only by 1%.

True these patents have not been challenged. But if they do stand in court, it means that who genus (groups of species) belong to companies.

Your right not all …
Your right not all GMO’s are bad. but there are no federal guidelines for GMO’s. There’s no way to separate the GMO’s from regular food. The corn seed stock has become contaminated. There are scientific steps that have to be taken to protect the public That have Ben neglected. That’s the big problem.

systmfalur February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

GMO’s aren’t all …
GMO’s aren’t all bad. GMO’s have been in practice since the advent of agriculture. Splicing different plants to create a new plant (Seedless Grapes). This isn’t necessarily a bunch of white pasty scientists staring into a microscope injecting viruses into pig fetuses. In Kenya they use GMO corn that is hardier and can grow easier under their climate to feed their population.

Excellent! Once …
Excellent! Once again an illustration of how corporate america is using their spin doctors to sell us unsafe products for their own selfish profits. Think we should hold them accountable with drastic measures that truly affect the producers of such dangers.

isreal423 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Not every single …
Not every single thing is a conspiracy, just
certain things by certain people, but when those certain people own most of our every day products, then theres a whole lot of conspiracies around us.

superdog797 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Where are the …
Where are the bodies?

Where are the bodies?

Where are the bodies?

I’ll leave you with two important words:

Norman Borlaug.

superdog797 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Why is every single …
Why is every single thing a conspiracy to someone?

superdog797 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Are you kidding?
Are you kidding?

GaGirlie777 February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Feed the world’s …
Feed the world’s hungry and increase nutrition. They will tell you anything…won’t they. They don’t want you to know what they are really doing with GMOs.

Hello Pinky Stinky, …
o Pinky Stinky, my name is John and I’ll always remain a hateful, angry, old neo-con. There’s no use trying to talk sense to me, I will not listen. I am prejudiced and uneducated. I do not tolerate any opinions but my own, and if you try speaking your mind at all, I’ll mock you mercilessly on youtube.

Fascist.
